Is there actually freedom of speech

Image result for the reality of freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is the ability to express yourself. In western countries we think of freedom of speech as a basic human right. People have fought for ages for the achievement of this right. But sadly, it is we, who are destroying the very thing that made us independent. The freedom of speech is nowadays anything but actually free.  .

Do not get me wrong, I am not against freedom of speech. I am glad we have it and I am aware of all the change and good it has provided us with. What I am against is how we define and sensor freedom of speech. How we go from freedom of speech to freedom of politically correct speech.

People nowadays try to be “ politically correct” instead of truthful and free on their speeches. They try not to criticize people or the majority/minorities of people. In Europe sensitivity-based censorship bans almost everything that can be “offensive, hateful or hurting” for some.  This is a threat against freedom of speech and democracy itself.  We are not allowed to criticize religions especially islam, neither talk about the negative effects people migrating from Middle-East to Europe. We are no longer able to freely express ourselves without trying to be “politically correct”.

Freedom of speech is no longer a right when people try to badmouth government actions or decisions. It is not a right when it disagreed with the bought medias ideologies that we currently have. People tend to not believe that media is bought and censored by political parties. Which is not true for the media does have people behind it pulling the strings.  That of course means that they will not publish something that goes against their ideologies. For example FOX news has been against the 45th president of the U.S and still is. It refuses to publish the goods that their upcoming president has to offer while embracing what they call the “reality of Trump” which is fake facts based on no sources or evidence. But of course the same happened with republican news sources which instead of of showing the good sides of Hillary Clinton they too embraced the bad side of her to push their own political party to victory.

Instead of going forward to a brighter future we are unfortunately going back to the times the rich and government/dictator/oligarchs  ruled the people instead of democracy. This needs to stop now! We need to once again stand up for our rights and try to get the real freedom of speech our great grandmothers and fathers fought for back!

  1. The post itself is interesting at the very least. Your line of thought is clear. Language and grammar are also good, though punctuation (and title of the post) could be worked on. There were a couple of quite bold statements that I wouldn't personally entirely agree with (or wouldn't word in a same way). Otherwise, it's pleasantly short and overall a good post.

  2. Freedom of speech is a tricky thing, as at some point, it is necessary (in my opinion) to draw a line as to what is appropriate and constructive use of language. You bring up some good examples and demonstrate how difficult it is to draw this line.
Remember to include all sources, even of images!
